Situated in the heart of Hamilton, the Commercial Hotel offers a quintessential Australian dining experience that truly celebrates hearty, home-style cuisine. Located at 64 Lonsdale St, this inviting restaurant excels in delivering comfort food classics with a welcoming, light-filled bistro atmosphere that instantly puts diners at ease.
The menu here is a delightful tour of robust flavors and generous servings. Guests often rave about the Lambs Fry and Bacon, served on a cloud-like mash and drenched in a rich, savory gravy—a dish that feels like a warm embrace on a plate. The Garlic Prawns are another star, boasting fat, succulent prawns paired with perfectly cooked rice that’s fluffy yet firm, capturing that ideal balance every seafood lover craves. Pasta enthusiasts will appreciate the hearty Carbonara fettuccine, offering a satisfying, sizeable portion with a garlicky twist, though it may lean on the bolder side for some palates.
One of the standout aspects of dining at the Commercial Hotel is the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re met with warm service that’s both pleasant and timely. The chef’s personal engagement—coming out to ask diners for feedback—adds a genuine, personalized touch that speaks volumes about their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
For beverage pairing, the selection is thoughtfully curated to complement the rich and varied dishes. Enjoy a glass of Wynn’s Riesling, crisp and refreshing, or opt for a cold schooner of Great Northern to round off your meal with classic Australian charm. Desserts like the homemade apple crumble are lovingly prepared, offering a sweet, comforting finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate.
The dining environment itself is casual yet vibrant, making it ideal for both relaxed lunches and hearty dinners. While the wooden floors contribute to a lively acoustic atmosphere—sometimes amplified by the joyful noise of children—the overall ambiance remains inviting and familiar, perfect for families and groups looking for a genuine taste of local hospitality.
Whether you’re craving succulent schnitzels, generous seafood dishes, or traditional Aussie classics, the Commercial Hotel embodies an authentic culinary experience. It’s a place where each dish is crafted with care, flavors are bold and satisfying, and the service makes you feel right at home—an absolute gem in Hamilton’s dining scene that’s well worth a visit.

Enjoying a lunch here and pleasantly surprised. Bistro light filled and welcoming. My husband had Lambs fry and bacon, nicely presented on fluffy mash with a rich gravy $14.50. My garlic prawns were fat and plentiful with the rice cooked to perfection $14.50. I had a Wynn's Resling $8.50. Hubby had a Schooner of Great Northern $7.00. Service was pleasant and timely. Can highly recommend and we will be return diners.

It was pasta and pizza night.$20 for either, with a good section to choose from. The guy taking orders couldn't tell us what size to expect...we asked in case we needed to order two. Wasn't helpful. , Ordered Carbonara fettuccine, thought it would be a safe bet. It was a huge serve! It was fairly heavy on the garlic, a tad watery. But wasn't too bad..... Sadly, the Salt and pepper squid was so salty it was almost inedible. The tiny dish of aoli made it tolerable. Price $25 approx. My young grandsons shared the pizza, it probably was 12 inch size?? We think the egg was under/not cooked properly, as my grandson had a severe allergic reaction, and we had to leave abruptly and rush home for him to be medicated. So, our first visit was not really all that great I am sad to say.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming as soon as you open the door. They were able to answer all our questions and dietary needs. The chef even came out after our meal and asked for feedback. The food is absolutely delicious. The chicken is cooked perfect and moist. The home made apple crumble is to die for. Everything is made to order and literally home made by the chef. Absolutely loved our dinner and would visit again next time we are in town!!!

The staff were very friendly but waited for nearly 40 minutes for our parms, that could be due to being busy & understaffed. The parm was juicy & the salad was great. The only downfall is the noise from kids crying as the wooden floors echo.
